Several Common Printing Processes for Disposable Paper Cups

Posted by House Day on

As a novel advertising method, paper cups have become one of the most economical, affordable and easy-to-operate advertising media for its close proximity to life and low cost.  Flexographic printing is currently the main process for paper cup printing.  The printing quality of paper cups depends to a large extent on the prepress production. This article intends to analyze and discuss some problems that should be paid attention to in the process of paper cup printing before printing.

Several Common Printing Processes for Disposable Paper Cups

The biggest function of paper cups is to hold beverages, such as carbonated beverages, coffee, milk, cold drinks, etc.

This is its earliest and most basic use.  Beverage paper cups can be divided into cold cups and hot cups.  Cold cups are used to hold cold beverages, such as carbonated beverages, iced coffee, etc.; hot cups are used to hold hot beverages, such as coffee, black tea, etc.  Different from the cold cup, the hot cup is pasted with a special polyethylene film on its surface, which not only has good heat resistance, but also is nontoxic and harmless when soaked in high-temperature beverage.

At present, advertisers or manufacturers also use paper cups as an advertising medium.

The design on the cup body can give people different drinking moods and is also a "symbol" to publicize certain products.  Because the trademark, name, manufacturer and distributor of the product can be designed on the surface L of the paper cup.  When people drink beverages, they can know and understand the products from the information. Paper cups provide a platform for people to understand these new products.

Second, several printing methods of paper cups are compared.

There are many kinds of paper cup nail bearing methods, and different printing methods have different printing characteristics.

1. Offset printing is based on the principle that oil and water repel each other, and selected papers from the graphic department.  Film propaganda paper cups are divided into hydrophilic and water-resistant paper cups, and the blank part is hydrophilic and oil-resistant. The pictures and texts are transferred to the printing stock through the blanket cylinder.  The advantages of offset paper cups lie in full, bright and clear patterns.  Both gradual changes and fine lines can be better displayed, making the paper cup more beautiful in appearance and more attractive to customers.  However, offset printing is not suitable for printing edible paper cups because offset printing ink is not very environmentally friendly.

2. Silk screen printing has great flexibility and applicability due to its soft and flexible layout.  It is not only suitable for printing on soft articles such as paper and cloth, but also suitable for printing on hard articles such as glass, ceramics, etc., and is not limited by the surface shape and area size of the substrate.  However, the advantages of screen printing paper cups are not well reflected, and screen printing has great restrictions on the reproduction of images and texts, and it is difficult to handle gradual changes and reproduce image accuracy.

3. Flexo printing is called "green printing" due to the use of water-based ink.  At present, many companies are asking about the development direction of flexo printing for their product packaging.  As the structure of flexo printing machine is relatively simple, compared with the huge body of offset press and the expensive material cost, flexo printing machine is "thin".  From the cost point of view, the equipment investment of flexo printing machine is lower than that of offset printing machines of the same scale, which can generally save as much as 30%~40%.  The small investment in production attracts the participation of small printing enterprises.  Flexo printing is not as narrow in the selection of original documents as screen printing, and its color requirements are relatively broad, but it is still inferior to offset printing.  Flexo printing is currently the main process used in paper cup printing, and the printing quality of paper cups depends to a large extent on prepress production.  But because its environmental protection is green printing, so the advantage rises and offset printing, the price is also high.
